Landsat 8

The US Geological Survey’s Landsat missions introduced the era of civil Earth observation and have delivered an unbroken 40-year multispectral moderate-resolution data series. The USGS can reasonably claim “a record unmatched in quality, detail, coverage and value”. This video, produced with NASA, illustrates Landsat 8’s 16-day global coverage cycle and the significance of its Sun-synchronous orbit.
